Until now gamers were given a connection choice between wired and wireless Internet connections. Wireless connections can be a pain in the neck with low signal strengths and high latency. It’s also comical to see your big brother run around the house with his laptop, trying to search a good hot-spot. That’s why I’ve always opted for a wired solution. Problem with this is the lengths of cables running around your house. Just look at my current solution. The main router is in my brother’s room, one cable snakes it’s way through the lounge into my PC, another cable rushes along the walls for my console, the living room TV gets another cable, and well you get the idea. For someone like me who prefers neatness and at the same time a good easy connection solution, the Powerline Internet AV Kit was a blessing.
We already know that a connection break-down is the biggest fear for a gamer. Honestly, how many controllers, keyboards or mice have you pummeled just because your Internet connection gave out on you at the most crucial of moments in a game?
Picture this, you just killed a bunch of enemies and are marching onwards to defuse the bomb and save the day; when all of a sudden your connection drops. How much profanity would you use?
The Powerline Internet AV Kit offers you the best of both worlds: Your home network will be in-fact wireless while at the same time having the stability of a wired connection.
How Does It Work?
The kit comes with two bulky wall-units. Plug one adapter unit into an AC wall socket and connect that with your route through the provided Ethernet cables. Next you can plug the other adapter unit into any AC wall socket of your house and connect your PC or console.
The connection is made through your internal electrical wirings and yes it’s that simple. There’s no need for any hardware, software or network setup. The kit is plug and play right from the box.
The HP200AV backs support for speeds up to 200Mbps. There are similar products in the market at the moment but I haven’t come across one which can match that speed.
Note that the kit can connect to any Internet-ready device.
- IP-TV in HD quality
- Video On Demand
- VoIP Telephony
- HDTVs
- Media Players
- Blu-Ray Players
- Gaming Consoles
With a range of 200 meters within a single power line grid, I’m sure you’re already imagining a re-work of your current home network.
Conclusion
The Powerline Internet AV Kit seems to be a blessing for everyone including gamers. The power of a wired connection with the hassle-free advantage of a wireless connection is truly outstanding. While I faced no problems at all, some of my friends reported occasional loss of signal which resulted in time-outs. Don’t get me wrong, this product is not a bust at all. For someone like me who has miles of cables running in the house, I only have love for it. However, it’s also true that you can never replace the quality or power you get by directly hooking up into the source. I cannot say that the Powerline Internet AV Kit can replace the traditional setup but it definitely can stand as a good alternative.
