Rumor: Rocksteady Studios Is Working On Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game

With the success of Arkham City one has to wonder what direction Rocksteady will take. Will they go for something different for their next IP or ride the same boat of comic heroes? Many fans have asked them for a Superman game. However, a rumor posted by PGN yesterday reports that Rocksteady is developing a turtles game titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Crisis. It’s said that the game will have a darker and serious tone than a comedic one.

Here is what the rumor gathered up about the possible IP:

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Crisis is the alleged name of the title.
  • Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo are the four playable characters. Each will have their own moves set and weapon of choice (Sword, Bo staff, Sai and nunchucks).
  • Flashbacks are played as Master Splinter/Hamato Yoshi.
  • Shurikens, smoke bombs, grappling hooks and climbing foot spikes will be there.
  • Gameplay and story/stage progression will be similar to Batman: Arkham City.
  • Classic characters such as Bebop, Rocksteady, Dr. Baxter Stockman, Shredder and Krang act as bosses.
  • The Turtle Van and Turtle Blimp will be present and with them and other gadgets. The Wii U build is expected to have touch screen controls for specific actions.
  • The Wii U build is expected to have touch screen controls for specific actions.
  • Multiplayer is unknown.
  • Graphics engine used is that of Arkham City.
  • The game is expected to be more dark than slapstick, but the turtles themselves and their interactions with the Foot Clan, bosses, and story characters like April O’Neil and Casey Jones will still have comedy attached.
  • The game is in development for Wii U, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
  • Careful selection of voice actors to bring the universe to life as well as Rocksteady did with their two Batman games.
  • Manhattan Crisis shares a similar name to the 1991/1992 NES title, “The Manhattan Project”, but is very much its own title.

Rocksteady Studios has given no confirmation and hence it’s just a rumor. However, it makes you wonder that how great a turtles game would be. For starters as a new IP it’s going to bring a much needed change of air. Secondly the Arkham City engine is great and it’s easy to imagine kicking foot soldiers’ butts with a turtle in there.
